Description from GoodReads:
Raphael is a dumpsite boy. He spends his days wading through mountains of steaming trash, sifting it, sorting it, breathing it, sleeping next to it. Then one unlucky-lucky day, Raphael’s world turns upside down. A small leather bag falls into his hands. It’s a bag of clues. It’s a bag of hope. It’s a bag that will change everything. Soon Raphael and his friends Gardo and Rat are running for their lives. Wanted by the police, it takes all their quick-thinking, fast-talking to stay ahead. As the net tightens, they uncover a dead man’s mission to put right a terrible wrong. And now it’s three street-boys against the world…
This book was amazing! The story was so interesting and yet so heartbreaking. The conditions that the boys and their families lived in was just unbelievable. I know that so many people do live in those conditions and it just breaks my heart.
The mystery the boys unravel was really engrossing. The book relatively short, but I couldn’t put it down. I wanted to keep going and see how everything connected and what happened to Raphael, Gardo, and Rat. I really enjoyed reading the other characters’ account of events. I liked that we got their perspective and motivations – not just their motivations for helping the boys, but also their motivations for being where they were. It made the story much richer and even more interesting.
I think this is going to be the kind of book that sticks with me for a while. I definitely recommend it to anyone!
