Weekly Recap 2/13/11

I didn’t post last week, so this is two weeks worth of reading. :)  I’m not really sure why, but my reading rate has seriously slowed down from last month.  Lots of busy days recently, I guess.

Books Read:

Princess Diaries (Princess Diaries, Bk 1) by Meg Cabot – This was a lot of fun.  It was pretty different than the movie, which threw me a bit, but I ended up liking the book a lot.  It was strange that her dad was alive in the book (he’s dead in the movie) and Mia already knew and didn’t like her grandmother.  Definitely will continue to read this series. (Book made into a movie)

Entangled by Cat ClarkeReview here (British Books Challenge, Debut Author Challenge)

Only the Good Spy Young (Gallagher Girls, Bk 4) by Ally Carter – I think I say this every time I read one of these books, but I really think I was a spy in another life.  I LOVE spy books.  The GG books are just so much fun.  I love the characters and the world they live in.  This book was my favorite of the four.  I couldn’t put it down because there was constantly something I needed to get to the bottom of.  I hate that I have to wait a year for the 5th book! (Set in a Boarding School)

The Ghosts of Ashbury High by Jaclyn Moriarty – Review to come (Aussie YA Challenge)

Scott Pilgrim and the Infinite Sadness by Bryan Lee O’Malley – I still love these.  Scott and company are awesome!

Weekly Recap 9/5/10

I am finally caught up on reading books by authors at the Decatur Book Festival and stuff I had to read for PBS Games.  It’s a very liberating feeling!  Of course, now I want to read every book on my shelves immediately.  And those books that are not on my shelves but in stacks around the living room.

Books Read:

Saving Maddie by Varian Johnson – I was a little worried that I wouldn’t like this book, but I ended up liking it a lot.  It brought up some of my own issues with church that I have grown through, like knowing why you believe something, not just believing because you’re told to.  Overall the story was really good!

The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting – This was really good and hard to put down!  I was so sucked in to the mystery that I kept picking it back up when I needed to be doing other things, like cleaning my apartment.  Oops!  I really liked Violet and Jay’s relationship.

I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore – This book was okay.  I like the premise more than the execution.  The characters were a little flat and the story dragged at times.  I was expecting a little more action.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World by Bryan Lee O’Malley – I am still completely amused by this series!  They’re hilarious and creative.  I love Scott, but his friends are my favorite part(s).

Holes by Louis Sachar – Now that I am done, I don’t know why I’d never read this book before!  It was so good.  Stanley and Zero were awesome.  I loved how the story from the past was interwoven with the current story.  I can definitely see why this won the Newbery Award.

Weekly Recap 8/29/10

Mockingjay Day finally came!  Yes, it was an actual holiday for me.  I took the day off work and spent it reading, except for a doctor appointment in the afternoon and dinner with friends.

Books Read:

Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Life by Bryan Lee O’Malley –  I really liked this!  It was so funny and the graphics were really great.  I’m definitely going to continue in the series and maybe even see the movie. :)

Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins – SO GOOD!  I was a little worried I wouldn’t like it because a few books that I have been really excited about this summer ended up kind of as duds, but this one didn’t disappoint.  I kind of had a hard time getting in to the book at first.  Part of that was because I just wanted to know how it ends so I was being impatient.  :)  But by the first battle scene, I was hooked.  I’m not giving away any spoilers, but I will say I laughed, I cried, I cursed Suzanne Collins, lather, rinse, repeat.  I am okay with how it ended.  I’m really glad I read the first two again before starting this one.  After I read some stuff from authors at this year’s Decatur Book Festival and some swap reading, I’m going to pick this back up and read it again!

The Eternal Ones by Kirsten Miller – Didn’t finish…  Haven annoyed me and I realized after 1/4 of the book that I just didn’t care.

The Julian Game by Adele Griffin – This was cute.  At times it was predictable and occasionally unpredictable.  I liked Raye.  The end seemed kind of rushed, but overall it was an enjoyable read.

Lady Macbeth’s Daughter by Lisa Klein – I liked this book.  Albia was a very likable strong character.  I haven’t read Macbeth, but I know the basic story, so it was interesting to see how the story was woven into the original story.
