Weekly Recap 6/6/10
Posted on 21 June 2010
I’m still in a blogging funk, so I thought I’d try doing weekly “what I’ve read this week updates” until I get back to actually writing about what I’m reading.
Savor the Moment by Nora Roberts – the third book in the Bride Quartet. I’m pretty burnt out on NR and find her stories predictable, but I liked that this one was about a wedding cake baker/designer. Hello, dream job!
The Cardturner by Louis Sachar – I haven’t really read any Sachar since Sideways Stories from Wayside School in elementary school (though I have Holes TBR). I loved this book! It’s kind of weird, but I loved that the Bridge explanations that were woven into the story. I read this right after my grandfather, an avid Bridge player, passed away, so I was probably a bit sentimental, but it was a good book.
Sisters Red by Jackson Pearce – I’m a bit torn on this book. I liked it. It was interesting and a pretty fast read. I liked how the story of Little Red Riding Hood was used in the modern day story. It was kind of fun to read a book set so close to where I live. There are Fenris in my neighborhood! On the other hand, the sisters’ relationship frustrated me sometimes. Perhaps it’s my own issues from growing up with a protective older sister, but I spent a lot of the book wanting to tell Scarlett to stop babying her sister and let her grow up and wanting to tell Rosie to stand up for herself and be her own person.
