My Soul to Take (Soul Screamers, Bk 1) by Rachel Vincent
She doesn’t see dead people, but…
She senses when someone near her is about to die. And when that happens, a force beyond her control compels her to scream bloody murder. Literally.
Kaylee just wants to enjoy having caught the attention of the hottest guy in school. But a normal date is hard to come by when Nash seems to know more about her need to scream than she does. And when classmates start dropping dead for no apparent reason, only Kaylee knows who’ll be next…
I kind of have mixed feelings on this book. On one hand, I thought the story was really interesting. Bean sidhe (banshees) are not exactly everyday fare. The mythology was different and kept me reading. But on the other hand, I didn’t like the characters. I can’t explain exactly why, but I really couldn’t stand Nash. I guess a big part of it is how he goes through girls at school like they’re lollipops, then suddenly he’s reformed because he meets Kaylee? Um, sure. He also just kind of annoyed me. Also Kaylee goes from not knowing him to completely trusting him and being so in love in like 3 days. Whatever. I didn’t like the stereotypical family, either, with the golden child and the ugly stepsister, er, niece.
I really wanted to like this book, and I did to an extent. I’ll definitely interested enough to read the next one when it comes out.
